Recently, we were exploring through North Little Rock after running an errand in the area and we ran across the most beautiful covered bridge I have ever seen.
This covered bridge is in Burns Park, the largest city park in Arkansas. Burns park is even bigger than Central Park in New York City!
It’s been many, many years since I was last in Burns Park. In fact, I think I was a little kid the last time I was there and we only visited Funland Amusement Park.
This time, however, we just drove all throughout the 1,700 park so we could see it all.
How Burns Park Got Its Name
A local doctor named William Burns started a drive to buy the land and was granted 20,000 dollars to buy the area for a park. He helped build pavilions, roads, trails, and a lake. In 1950, the park was named Burns Park after him. –source
Today it is one of the biggest urban parks in the country and provides a natural haven in the midst of the city. –source
Covered Bridge in Burns Park
We visited the RV park, soccer fields, Funland Amusement Park and so much more but the biggest surprise of all was the beautiful one-lane covered bridge.
The covered bridge in Burn’s Park was built in 1972. It’s 85 feet long and is the second-longest covered bridge in Arkansas. It spans the East Fork White Oak Bayou.
The red, wooden-covered bridge at Burns Park is flanked by stonework along the western edge of North Little Rock 0.1 miles from Interstate 40. –source
It looks like it’s straight out of a Hallmark movie.
We drove over it at least 4 times and even walked over it.
There is a beautiful gazebo that sits out in the water nearby that makes for the perfect place to take a good photo of the bridge.
Also, there is a walking bridge over the creek. It’s a peaceful place to spend part of your afternoon.
